This is a testimony from one Safaricom Employee to me
My name is ( Name Withheld ) and I just read a post on the subject above
and can confirm that I am one of the victims. I worked for that
company called Safaricom for 5 and half years and did develop that condition ( Acoustic Shock Syndrome ) but
unfortunately I was retired on medical ground with my colleagues in
October 2012. since then life has not been the same. For starters I
have not been able to secure a job since most of the interviews I
attend, the question is why are you leaving safaricom? I have to tell
the truth because I can’t lie that it is career progresion lest they
call to find out.
I and some of my colleagues have since moved to court to seek justice
the hearings begin ( Date Withheld ) at the industrial court and they
are spread to ( Date Withheld ) . mine will be on ( Date Witheld ) .
the most appalling thing is that there was blatant abuse of the law as
far as injuries are concerned. For instance, the little knowledge I
have on retirement on medical ground is that it must be recommended by
a medical board, that never happened to any of us. Also the injuries
were to be reported to the director occupational health and services
so that they could also conduct independent medical assessment and
give a report as a government. that was never done for some of us.
Please highlight this issue so that they can sort out the mess in their call centers . Many may be suffering yet they are not aware of the dangers.
I have the Letters Safaricom used to lay them off . Read here
What is shocking is that Safaricom decided to retire them due to the illness caused by working at their call centers and they were given a very unfair retirement package of 2 months salary for every year worked and no medical cover.
