Uganda President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to give a speech at the Kenyatta University toay from 3 p.m. local time.
Kenyans online have decided to shame his host Uhuru Kenyatta and call for the release of the Former Makerere University don Dr. Stella Nyanzi.
Museveni regime jailed Dr. Nyanzi after she protested the government’s mistreatment of citizens in October 2018. Stella said that she feels safer in jail than outside and so did not request bail.
Series of activism
In April 2017, Stella referred to Museveni as a ‘pair of buttocks’ in 2017, she was later arrested and detained by police at Kiira Police Station on charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication. She was arrested and produced in court. she was later released on a non cash bail of Ushs. 10 million (Kshs. 271,000).
Dr. Nyanzi would go on to resist Museveni’s government, making public utterances that were deemed offensive by the dictatorship. For the utterances she was detained at Luzira WOmen’s prison since 7th November, 2018.
Her trial is underway after its opening on Wedneday [27th March, 2019] in Kampala.
Dr Stella Nyanzi, an outspoken feminist, LGBTIQ activist and medical anthropologist.
Kenyan activists have asked students at the institution to disrupt the speech by Museveni.
