Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan has made a shocking declaration involving his financial status.
Gyan said that he was bankrupt and that he is unable to provide for his family who he hasn’t been in touch with for four months now.
The former Sunderland striker and Ghana’s main man at the 2010 World Cup was once among the highest paid players in the world but now, according to a Ghanaian news source, he only has roughly $700 in his bank account.
Since leaving The Stadium of Light in 2012, Gyan spent three years in the UAE with Al Ain where he earned around £200k a week and scored an impressive 123 goals in 120 appearances.
He then earned another big-money move to the Chinese Super League, spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Shanghai SIPG before returning to the UAE with Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai, but things look to have come crashing down to the earth since he moved to Turkey last year.
According to Gyan’s family members, he has not spoken to his wife or three children since August, even at Christmas when he usually visits, and his kids are understood to be getting worried about their dad’s whereabouts.
Gyan is not returning calls, and it is unclear whether that is out of choice or not as he awaits DNA tests to confirm their identity which are scheduled for early January. At first it was assumed that the Ghanaian had requested the tests but it is now reported that it was actually his older brother Baffuor.
Gyan met his wife Gifty in 2002 and they officially tied the knot in 2013 and she gave birth to their first child in 2005 but he is now believed to be filing for a divorce so he can remarry with his reported girlfriend Nina Atallah.
Many believe Asamoah’s bankruptcy is all an act and his latest tweet after the news went viral might explain why. He sent out a tweet full of laughing emojis which is believed to be his response to the allegations.
