Kenya has received KSh42.7 billion grant from the Global Fund, money that will go into the fight against diseases such as HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis for the period 2021/2024.
Furthermore, the allocation marks a 17% increment from the 2017/2021 provision, which the country got KSh38 billion.
Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, CS says the funds will enable partners to expand programmes that work, and to find innovative solutions for new challenges. She adds that KSh27.47 billion will go towards HIV, while malaria will get KSh8.79 billion and TB KSh5.73 billion.
The Global Fund is an international financing and partnership organization that aims to attract, leverage and invest additional resources to end the epidemics of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. This, therefore, helps to attain the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.
The organization receives money from donor countries and NGOs and redistributes it to needy countries with a high disease burden.
