After a humiliating performance on Tuesday night, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling was up for even more embarassment after Lionel Messi emphatically turned down the Englishman’s request to exchange shirts.
It looked like despite scoring two goals and helping Barcelona achieve a 4-0 aggregate triumph in their Champions League quarter-final tie, Messi still hadn’t gotten over the nasty elbow he received from Chris Smalling at Old Trafford in the first leg.
The impact caused Messi’s nose to bleed, but the injury wasn’t deemed serious enough that the Argentine needed to be subbed off the pitch.
So when Smalling requested a shirt exchange at the Nou Camp, he got a cold snub from the 31-year-old Argentinian to the excitement of thousands of football fans on social media.
