A Twitter user MrMcCall (@MrMcCall7) reveled how Safaricom nearly forcefully subscribed him to its premium service.
At the country’s biggest Telco, it seems things have gone from bad to worse.Safaricom has had outages in key service areas over the past half a year and it is the innocent Kenyan that pays for it.
These days, apart from being forced to turn back to bundles when using MySafaricom app over a Wi-Fi, failure to do which the MPESA payment stalls, Safaricom fraudulent staff are forcefully subscribing people to premium services through carefully crafted popups that abruptly shows up on one’s phone screen.
In the case of the Twitter user, according to his post, he was asleep when he woke up to find the below screen pop up telling him he is about to be subscribed to a service that charges Ksh10 per day.
He wondered, “I had been asleep away from the phone. At what point did I click on or select options leading to such a pop up on my phone?”.

Many people have expressed similar moves by Safaricom, but the Telco has never addressed it.
By the time of publishing this article, Safaricom had not answered the above tweet to which they were tagged.
