Nairobi – CORD leader Raila Odinga says he is very proud of his initiative to upgrade Kibera slums during his time as Lang’ata MP and Prime Minister.
Raila spoke as he hosted the Kibera Slum Upgrading Program Settlement Executive Committee officials at his Capitol Hill offices.
The team charged with overseeing the re- settlement process was led by Chairman Raphael Handa included James Mokua, Annah Wanjiru and Jackton Otieno.
They briefed Odinga on the resettlement back to Soweto of the decanted residents.
” It was an initiative I was proud to have been a part of and am proud to have spearheaded,” he said.
Raila initiated the Slum Upgrading Program in a partnership effort with the UNDP based on a Malaysian model that saw a structured eradication of slums in their nation.
The CORD leader spearheaded this effort with a view to achieving the same goal here in Kenya.
Raila’s progress during his time as Kibera MP has often been ridiculed by Jubilee coalition supporters, especially with the onset of projects run in the country by the National Youth Service, an initiative of the Jubilee government.
