This morning, Kenyans on social media were furious after a local daily reported that Tana River County Commissioner Oning’oi Ole’sosio had announced that people who will not have registered for the Huduma Namba by the deadline date could be considered foreigners and a threat to national security.
The report added that Mr Ole’sosio said so during an interview where he insisted that registration is necessary to “guarantee national security” and e“nsure efficient delivery of services”; claiming those against it had a hidden agenda.
Twitter users were not slow to react, with some expressing their joy over the prospect of getting deported into a different country in case they don’t comply.
Others rubbished the commissioner’s statement as just another desperate threat by the government to try and scare Kenyans into registering for the Huduma Namba.
This is what some of them had to say.
This is very commendable @NziokaWaita can we now choose where we want to be deported? https://t.co/6CM7sprQhO

The Huduma Namba threats are becoming quite interesting as the deadline approaches. All the threats should be launched officially because there is so much confusion as to which one is genuine. 😂😂😂

So the thieves of our taxes are NOT a threat to national security but somehow Kenyans who don't have Huduma namba which is an optional numeral are a threat? Madness!!! https://t.co/6rZmrNv1Uy

Imagine being considered a foreigner in a country that treats foreigners so much better than their own citizens. This is the dream we have always wanted. https://t.co/Io6yVJi47L
