Residents of Kilifi town have called on the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) as well as the Kilifi County Government to move in and save them from ongoing pollution by a local health facility in the area.
The unhappy lot has placed the Kilifi County Hospital under the spotlight for its poor waste management that has now left unhygienic garbage hazardously spread all over the surrounding neighbourhood.
Bearing in mind that the streets are hardly 30 meters away from estates and apartments occupied by humans and children, the dangerous situation could quickly escalate into a full-blown disaster.
The environment watchdog, according to the residents, has been looking the other way as the hospital continues to carelessly dump harmful waste in the open.
“Good morning Nyakundi,
Kuna hii issue ya Kilifi County Hospital.
Imagine their way of disposal isn’t pleasing.
Wanatupa waste from the hospital anyhow yet kuna watu wanastay karibu like 20 to 30 meters na pia ni kwa njia.
Kindly expose hawa watu wa KCH,” our source writes.
