A viral tweet on solving world hunger has attracted the high-level troll of the World’s Richest man Elon Musk.
The South African migrant to the USA known for very unconventional responses and publicity didn’t take time to set Twitter ablaze.
A Dr Eli David had shared a tweet with a screenshot of a news article stating that, ‘2% of Elon Musk’s wealth could solve world hunger,’ Says Director of UN food scarcity organisation.
For perspective, Dr Eli David continued, ‘2 per cent of Musk’s wealth is about USD6 billion’. ‘In 2020 the UN World Food Program (WFP) raised $8.4B. How come it didn’t “solve world hunger”?“.
To which Elon Musk replied,
“If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it,” Musk replied then added, “But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent”.
It is not easy to read Elon Musk’s tweets without finding a vein of sarcasm in them in such situations.
This followed the same manner. It opened a pandora’s box on what many a book on how AID works not as a solution to many of the world’s problems. The fraud in donor funds often stinks to high heaven and most of the billions of dollars end up in the management pockets.
If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.

Maximum respect for this man @elonmusk 💯✊🏿

This is the greatest tweet Iv ever seen !!! Fair play @elonmusk but I’m also sure that WFP has not got a clue how to spend $6B to solve world hunger as 90% would normally go in there pockets. https://t.co/znUVDCy444

How would it solve the hunger problem if 50% of that money is used in conferences and board room meetings discussing about hunger
