Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union Acting Secretary General Dr Chibanzi Mwachonda has shared his experience with Kenyans after testing positive for covid-19.
He confirmed to Kenyans through a statement on friday that he was infected while discharging his duties. He is in a stable condition and still self-isolating.
“My family is safe, contact tracing and testing of all close contacts is ongoing,” he said.
The recuperating Mwachonda on sunday told kenyans the reality of the virus. The symptoms are waxing and waning nature and can put one in a state of apprehension. He is experiencing fatigue, mild symptoms and endless tiredness even after long hours of sleep.
He also explained that symptoms may vary depending on the body’s response to the disease. He is taking Paracetamol tabs,Zinc tablets, Vitamin C tablets, Azithromycin tabs and drinking a lot of water for hydration.
The outbreak of the novel virus is escalating with the burden on the healthcare system increasing daily as health service who are at the exposed to the greatest risks.
The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) commends all nurses responsible for caring for those infected and dealing with long queues to assist patients.
Nurses are trained in principles, guidelines and protocols regarding infection prevention and control which applies regardless of the infection type.
Mwachonda tested positive on friday the day Health CS Mutahi Kagwe reported that up to 634 healthcare workers had contracted Covid-19 and the number continues to spike. This was amid accusations that Kenya was under reporting its cases.
