A section of contractors and suppliers at the Kenya Airports Authority ( KPA) has vowed to petition the state and the national assembly over what they term as escalating corruption, nepotism and intimidation towards suppliers at the agency.
They have outlined a number of departments they feel need change, among the Civil Engineering Department which they say has become a difficult place to transact any transparent business.
In the petition, they have also singled out one of the topmost Engineers known as Sidai and his assistant cum-counterpart Eng Mwaura whom they blame for fleecing money from the corporation by intimidating Contractors and Suppliers.
They are further lamenting unprocedural allocation of tenders which they claim are being awarded secretly and to the highest bidder.
Also of concern to them is the fact that the port has continued to award tenders to perennial suppliers who have mastered the art of manipulation.
They claim that the port is not working with start-up businesses hence denying locals job opportunities.
“We have cases where some good and honest contractors are black listed and told to the face that they will never work in KPA Mombasa as they did not deliver the money Eng Sidai and Eng Mwaura wanted” part of the petition reads.
They have pointed out a case where a contractor was awarded a Sh 10 million contract yet the work was pegged at Sh7 million.
“These two Engineers did not care and asked the contractor for Sh6million.
Not caring about taxes due to this contractor and magnitude of the contract and running of the company,” it adds.
They consequently want the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to look into the matter.
Also on the list is a life audit demand on Eng Sidai whom they say has become an overnight millionaire.
“He has bought 4 houses in the suburbs of Nyali for over 60 million each and at least 2 houses in Nairobi Karen for over 80 million each yet he is a government employee who has held that position for less than 4 years,” the petition concludes.
