Forcefully exiled Lawyer and Kenyan Miguna Miguna has waded into the issue of the takeover of Nairobi County Government by the National Government.
“Article 187 of the Constitution does not authorize 2 individuals to sit in a room and TRANSFER functions from one level of Government to the other. It authorizes GOVERNMENTS to transfer functions LEGALLY through LEGISLATION via Parliament and the respective County Assembly”, Miguna wrote on Twitter.
Yesterevening, just after it was reported that Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Ms Beatrice Elachi had given corrupt Governor Mike Sonko a week to defend himself over allegations of corruption, the official twitter handle for statehouse announced that Sonko had handed over some functions of Nairobi County to Uhuru Kenyatta.
Varied opinions were shared on social media, most of which were from non-lawyers sharing the screenshots of Article 187 of the constitution that speaks about the transfer of power between levels of government.
“This is a coup d’é·tat. Despot Uhuru Kenyatta has subverted the Constitution, disobeyed numerous court orders, presided over an unprecedented level of plunder, abuse of power and brutalization of Kenyans. Patriots must stop him from turning Kenya into a Kenyatta Slave Estate”, Miguna stated
