Liverpool Football Club has announced Nike, a global leading footwear and apparel company, as its new official kit supplier starting the 2020/21 season.
The Premier League’s favorite publicized a multi-year pact with Nike on Tuesday, replacing New Balance, which has been the official kit supplier for LFC from 2015/16 till the end of the 2019/20 season.
This is happening after New Balance took the club to court in 2019, alleging that Liverpool was looking to shift to Nike when their existing contract ended in May 2020. They claimed they should have been granted the opportunity to match Nike’s offer.
Nevertheless, the club positively argued that New Balance wasn’t able to match Nike’s offer of distribution and marketing, with the judge ruling that the New Balance’s offer was less favorable to Liverpool FC unlike Nike’s offer.
The MD and Chief commercial officer of the club, Billy Hogan, stated, “Our iconic kit is a key part of our history and identity. We welcome Nike into the LFC family as our new official kit supplier and expect them to be an incredible partner for the club, both at home and globally as we continue to expand our fan base.”
He further added that as a brand, Nike reflected their ambitions for growth and that they were looking forward to working with them to bring the fans new and exciting products.
“We’d like to thank New Balance for their support over the last few years and wish them well for the future,” Hogan added.
The partnership is set to concur with LFC’s move into a new-fangled, advanced training facility based in Kirkby for the season 2020/21 season. The project is said to include venturing into improved sports facilities for the local community.
The multi-year deal, which begins on June 1, 2020 will see Nike manufacture and supply all the training, playing and traveling wears for the Liverpool FC’s men, women, and academy teams.
