The United States has confirmed that three people, including a US service member and two civilians, were killed in an Al-Shabab attack on a military base in Kenya’s Lamu County used by US and Kenyan military personnel.
In an updated press release sent out by US Africa Command a few moments before 11 p.m EAT, they also noted that two other Department of Defense personnel were also wounded in the attack on Camp Simba, but were stable and being evacuated.
“During an attack by al-Shabaab, an al-Qaida group in East Africa, earlier today, one (1) U.S. service member and two (2) Department of Defense contractors were killed at a Kenya Defense Force Military Base in Manda Bay, Kenya.
In addition, two (2) Department of Defense members were wounded. The wounded Americans are currently in stable condition and being evacuated.”
