Media socialite Yvonne Okwara Trolled Mike Sonko over the CBD matatu ban, alleging that people with disabilities are suffering over the ban yet all Kenyans have been hit hard.
In a series of tweets, she ranted and condemned the ban despite the fact that the media house she works for was in the fore-front drumming up support for the bad move.
In one of the posts, she accused Kenyans of calling her a Githeri Journalist
Here are some of her rants
I will not be shamed here for asking questions on behalf of PWDs. I will not be labelled anti-Sonko or Tibim or a 'resister'. PWDs have been marginalised for far too long in this country by leaders from both sides of the divide! It is a historical injustice!
This is not about the work I do for media or anything else. I have experienced the plight of persons with disability in a very personal way for all my life. I speak boldly for them and with courage. The stigma here is the one we have faced all our lives, as a family!
And yes, I will ask the duty bearers, the ones to whom I pay my taxes, what they have done for persons with disability. It is not a right, or a favour, or a privilege!
So call me githeri-media, all the names you want. Remember, I'm first a defender of the rights of persons with disability first and everything else later! I will not be shamed by labels!!
Anytime a government whether county or national (Jubilee, ODM or God-knows which other party will be created in future) comes up with a policy, I will ask what's in it for persons with disability. It is my right to do so and my God-given calling.
