Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has been arrested for the accusations of assaulting a media commentator Joyce Wanja alias Wagichungumwa over a month since the incident occurred.
Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria who is infamous for his foul language, shrewd ways and outright lack of decorum, hit the headlines in early December 2019 for allegedly assaulting a female Political Analyst Joyce Wanja.
Joyce Wanja, an activist, alleged that the Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, descended on her with slaps and blows while she was on her line of duty preparing to go on air for Inooro TV Kirîrîmbi show.
Joyce Wanja revealed that she had been invited in Royal media’s Inooro Tv for a discussion regarding BBI alongside Moses Kuria.
Joyce Wanja narrated that it is as they were waiting to do on air during a talk which included Moses Kuria that she told him he had been wrong to speak shrewd words in the presence of children in a past event.
It is during the talk that Joyce Wanja claimed that Moses Kuria stood abruptly and landed on her with slaps and blows.
The activist, Joyce Wanja, recorded a statement at the Kilimani Police Station where she said she hoped Moses Kuria was not too mighty for justice to be ensured.
However, the MP remained scot-free despite Joyce Wanja filing charges against the Gatundu South MP and has today been arrested, a month later.
Four witnesses who were present at the time when Moses Kuria is alleged to have attacked Joyce Wanja of Royal Media Services have already recorded statements and are ready to testify.
As the World continues on it struggle to end violence against women, it is sad to have the case of a leader and a Member of Parliament such as Moses Kuria assault and walk scot-free for a whole month.
Kenya has witnessed over 108 recorded deaths of women through gender based violence so far and acts such as those portrayed by Gatundu South only go deeper in fueling the violence against women as they are deemed of weaker physical strength.
