Nairobi based blogger Abdullahi Musa has been arraigned in court over extortion claims.
Musa was arrested on Sunday evening along Lenana Road and detained at the Central police station overnight. On Monday morning police presented him at Milimani law courts where they were allowed to detain him for seven more days to pave way for investigations. According to the charge sheet, Abdullahi Musa was accused of extorting business Ibrahim Khalif by demanding money to pull down a post he had published on his Facebook page.
The court was told that between 20th April 2021 and 25th April 2021, at Nairobi County, having knowledge of written contents and with intent to extort money from Ibrahim Khalif, the blogger sent him the messages posted on his page.
He will now spend one week at Central police station awaiting being formally charged next Monday. The blogger who initially worked for Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho before they fell out. He then began using his page to disparage Joho who has ignored him.
Detectives believe that Musa has been running an ocean syndicate where he posts defamatory messages mainly targeting Muslims before demanding money to pull down the post.
Ibrahim told police officers that Musa had demanded Sh5 million to pull down a post linking him to irregular deals in Nairobi County.
