In a poor country like Kenya, scammers, looters and grabbers play to the ignorance of the majority to steal funds.
In Kenya, the Red Cross Society seem to work with a maxim that goes, ‘better feed a man with fish. Don’t teach him how to fish, ‘ because if you do, then you won’t be able to have an avenue to fundraise and get ‘a cut’ from that money to enrich oneself.
Mr. Abbas knows this too well. He plays to the minds of gullible Kenyans like the pastorpreneurs do.
The pastorpreneurs always find a way to shock the masses into believing that if they can’t pay tithe or offerings, then they won’t get blessings from an imaginary being.
The Kenya Red Cross cannot account for the over Kshs. 1 billion Kenyans contributed in the campaign for similar causes dubbed ‘Kenyans for Kenya’.

In fact, these same characters never call for better Democratic governance and management of public finds by the government.
Yesterday, at the launch of the ‘Support A Family’ campaign, Gina-Din Kariuki, the PR person scolded us by saying she has all the answers to the ‘Kenyans for Kenya’ campaign.

“If you still have questions around Kenyans for Kenya, ask us. We have all the numbers. Kenyans always come through in times of disaster, I believe this time Kenyans will also come through,” she said.
Gina-Din claims that the 1Billion shillings collected was spent thus: (700M was in cash and 300M was in kind). 350M of the 700M collected was split for food and health intervention. The rest was for mid to long term projects functional to date.

Abbas Gullet has been accused of mismanagement of funds at the KRCS.
He is accused of buying Boma Hotel, Heritage Insurance and Switch TV with part of the money that was raised in the ‘Kenyans for Kenya’ campaign.
