A section of parents at Laiser Hill Academy – a private secondary school located in Kajiado North Constituency – has raised fears over the suspected poor welfare of children enrolled at the school.
Speaking to us via e-mail, an insider privy to the matter briefly divulged the current worrying state of affairs which risks having serious implications on the students’ performance.
Among the critical issues that relevant authorities under the Ministry of Education have been urged to immediately address is the increasingly heavy traffic of people and stationery vehicles along the school’s low-lying fence.
This has not only been attributed as a leading cause of distractions but also a dangerous precedent for potentially worse problems like exposure to drugs and other negative vices.
Heavy dissatisfaction has also been expressed in certain quarters over the school’s insistence on having students walk long distances to other institutions for extra-curricular activities.
Some have suggested that in such situations, the school buses ought to be availed for easier movement.
The parents have also protested Laiser Hill Academy’s failure to provide students with lunch during such escapades despite them forking out high amounts for the same.
“Hi, Nyakundi,
I am a parent at Laiser Hill Academy.
Is it possible for you to help bring out the following issues to the attention of relevant authorities so they can check and advise the school on precautions and remedial actions on the following?
1. All manner of trucks and people hang around the fence which is very low.
- Outsiders do talk with students across the fence.
- This could be exposing the young students to bad influences including drugs.
2. Students walk long distances from other schools when buses are not availed for extra-curricular activities.
3. Students are not provided lunch when they go out for extracurricular activities yet these activities are already paid for by parents,” the source writes.
