Bidco is a Multinational consumer Goods Company . Maybe you use or have used their products that include Edible Oils, Fats , Margarines , Laundry bars and even detergents . Personal care products and animal products also form part of their wide range of products .
The expansion of Bidco has been exponential and sometimes controversial . In the year 1998, they acquired Elianto unit from Unga group a firm listed in the NSE . This was actually the first major acquistion by BIDCO. In the year 201, they spread their wings to Tanzania through the creation of BIDCO oil and SOAP limited in Dar-Es-Salaam.
They later acquired Unilever leading Brands in Edible oil and Soap business in Kenya. This was in the year 2002. Bidco Uganda Limited Complex was started in 2005 in Jinja Uganda. The Jinja plant has been producing products for both the Ugandan and the international market .
Their manufacturing factories are located in Kenya Uganda and Tanzania . According to various reputable sources, BIDCO products are also marketed to 13 other African countries.
Now, Bidco has been accused of Grabbing land from Poor Ugandan farmers and poorly compensating others with little money that cannot even feed a cockroach.
Most of these farmers used to depend on this land for their Livelhood. They need their land ack, that is not debatable .
So who owns BIDCO group ? Well, the stock of BIDCO Africa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hemby Holdings Limited a privately held investment of Bhimji Depar Shah and his family .
