When Mashifta sang pesa, pombe, siasa na wanawake, ndiyo zitafanya wanaume wauane, almost 20 years ago, they captured the real state of relationships among humans.
This best describes an unfolding relationship between two brothers in Nandi seeking political office.
One, a visionary leader who has served as MP for Emgwen for the last two terms, now seeking to be senator, due to a push from the electorate – Alex Kosgey
The other, Allan Kosgey – a man who has tried his hand in politics one too many times but to no success.
Allan, an elder brother to Alex, has announced interest in being Nandi governor and has teamed up with current Senator Samson Cherargei, with whom they are keen on reigning havoc in the county.
So, where did the rain start beating the House of Kosgey?
Last year, after a successful survey in Nandi county, Deputy President William Ruto called Alex Kosgey and asked if he would host him for a tour of the county, knowing that he would be a serious mobilizer.
Alex, being a key front runner took the assignment to heart and organized a successful tour that saw the DP not only visit Emgwen, but other parts of Nandi county, where the name of Alex reverberated resoundingly.
Little did he know his elder brother, Allan was burning inside.
He knew his chances of ascending to the county’s top seat were diminishing, and very fast.
Here, he thought quickly and teamed up with TV senator Samson Cherargei in the hope of forming an alliance that will see them fight Alex jointly.
The two have been meeting regularly, planning to de-campaign Alex, to the extent of sending goons to Alex’s meetings in the name of pushing him out of the race.
For Allan and Cherargei, it is a marriage of convenience where both are fighting to salvage their dwindling political careers by besmirching Alex.
Just last week, Allan, teaming up with Cherargei, sent goons to a meeting in Nandi Hills Township where Alex was hosting thousands of youth.
Youth chanting Cherargei and Allan’s names stormed the meeting, demanding Sh1,000 each to shield Alex.
They were however overpowered.
Allan has now come under serious backlash, not only from his support base, but from the elders in the county who are painting him as a violent man who should not get close to the county’s leadership.
Infact, images of people being advised to go to Allan’s meetings in helmets have emerged portraying him as a violent character.
It has also emerged that Alex has become a target of his brother’s political machinations because of his development record in Emgwen, where the residents have given him the blessings to run for the senator seat.
