We may not know who will win, but we sure as hell know who won’t. And amongst the Governors, we know that Kiambu’s William Kabogo tops the list, followed closely by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
From the onset, the smooth-talking crook Alfred Mutua look poised to take the country by storm, using the skills he had acquired as Government Spokesman to manipulate the bribed media corps into favourable reporting of his “development” initiatives. Indeed, his fellow PR-buddy President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned a toilet, one of the most bizarre undertakings that a sitting Head of State has ever engaged in.
After launching the “Maendeleo Chap Chap” Movement on New Year using StateHouse money, and bribed editors who provided live coverage of the mediocre event, Mutua has since gone underground, perhaps discouraged by the low turnout at the event held at the Machakos Stadium.
Indeed, Machakos County is said to owe suppliers and service providers over Kshs. 3 Billion with reports that an individual committed suicide unable to cope with debt burdens while servicing a tender from Machakos.
As all this is happening, Governor Mutua is flying high using the county money to hire a chopper for excursions with his wife, an ex-Kenya Airways Hostess whom he had once put up a salon for in Westland’s Bandari Plaza. Patronage and corruption seem to be rife in the county, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been on Mutua’s case for purchasing second-hand police cars and ambulances, contravening the procurement laws. Today, 90% of the vehicles Mutua purchased are now wrecks, lying at the headquarters as salvages.
Beyond that, a blatant appointment executed by Governor Mutua has been that of Kennedy Auma who was appointed as the PS of Sports in Machakos, his only claim to fame being that he is married to Mutua’s sister.
Meanwhile a road that had generated a lot of publicity connecting Machakos Town to Kithimani turn-off has started degenerating, barely 2 years after it was launched in pomp and glamour. The road that was fast-tracked and split amongst various contractors had some paid and others still claiming their monies to date.
And instead of paying suppliers, Mutua and his wife would rather spend millions hosting Tanzanian musician Ali Kiba and others for concerts, a clear show how Jubilee incompetence and wastage has spread to the counties.
Mutua has now come into the limelight for dispatching a policeman Jonah Kirui to threaten members of a whatsapp group called “Ukambani Politics” after they added him so as to air their grievances.
