In a sad epiphany that demonstrates the seedy underbelly of Kenyan politics, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Ford Kenya, and the Kenya Kwanza government have been faulted for engaging in a ruthless game of “use and dump” behaviour by abandoning their campaign mobilizer and former candidate, Consolata Wakwambubi.
Wakwambubi, who was a campaigner and mobilizer for UDA and Kenyan Kwanza coalition during the 2022 elections, had aspirations of running for the Bungoma Women Representative seat.
However, she was convinced by the Ford Kenya party to step down in favour of Catherine Wambilianga.
Since President Ruto’s victory, Wakwambubi has been left to fend for herself. Despite having a sick husband, she has received no assistance in finding employment.
Currently, she is hospitalized at Life Care Hospital in Eldoret, undergoing surgery with no financial support from the very political parties she selflessly worked for.
This tale of heartbreak and betrayal is a reminder of the dark side of politics and how politicians often forget the people who made their success possible.
It is critical for political parties to prioritize the well-being and livelihoods of their supporters, particularly those who have made significant contributions to their campaigns.
