The purge at Safaricom Plc needs to truly clear a lot of dead weight that the firm has carried over the years.
One of those dead weights is the legal department which has hired some big named law firms that are a nuisance and an embarrassment in court cases.
Going by the argument by some Safaricom legal representatives, it appears, and indeed one can assume that Safaricom doesn’t really win cases, but uses that inglorious Kenyan pastime, bribery to do so.

Some of the law firms that Safaricom has contracted behave like ambulance chasers. Yes, a firm must represent itself in legal tussles, but some tussles are worthless and a waste of time.

Due to MMC Africa, Safaricom faces a class action suit, which by all evidences, could’ve been avoided. You see, Safaricom employees had allegedly stole data of 11.5M customers and hawking it around like peanuts, the employees had even approached firms like Sportpesa to sell this data to.
Not so many people take data breach with the seriousness it deserves, more so in Kenya. The data in question has crucial bio analysis of customers that would put their personal security in danger. Data held spending pattern, physical locations name it. Politicians and even religious leaders like Muslims who don’t condone gambling, had their data leaked.
