Guards contracted by Security Group Africa (SGA) Nairobi, have come forward to protest what they term as unfair terms of work.
Writing to this blog on Tuesday, September 27, a source within the firm blew the whistle on the alleged mistreatment of senior staff and disparity in workers’ wages.
Some guards apparently earn an unreasonably higher amount than others, despite sharing identical roles.
The same skewed criteria is applied when it comes to employment benefits like salary advances, etc.
“Hi Nyakundi,
Please, can you help me with this?
SGA security company, this company is against its staff, whereby there are some in there earning more than others.
To make it worse, they are now recruiting news staff, giving them new numbers, earning more than the seniors who have worked for the company for more than 2 years.
The company has different numbers.
Let me start with T10 and Q10.
These are guards earning Kes.16,500 a month and getting an advance of Kes.3,000.
The other now is T2.
We wear the same uniforms, same assignment, but different salary.
These guards earn Kes.9,300 a month, and no advance.
When you try to ask, you are fired.
Please help us.
Hide my identity,” the source writes.
When two individuals in a company do similar work at the same level of qualification yet are not paid equally, this is wage inequality.
A security guard in Kenya typically earns between Sh10,435 and Ksh24,845 net per month at the start of the job.
After 5 years of service, this is between Sh12,050 and Ksh30,668 per month for a working week of 52 hours.
