On Thursday, Caspal Obiero and Michael Oyamo, who were charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby were freed by the Court of Appeal on a Ksh. 1 million bail each.
The two had been charged together with Migori governor Okoth Obado who was also freed by the court last year.
The court said that just like in Obado’s case, they didn’t find reason enough to keep holding the two suspects hence the release.
Mr Caspal Obiero was regarded as one of governor Obado’s closest aides while Mr Michael Onyamo was his personal assistant.
According to the prosecution, Onyamo was responsible for luring Sharon Otieno from her parents home in Homa Bay where she would later be abducted together with a journalist from a local Kenyan daily.
The journalist managed to escape but Sharon was murdered.
The two men pleaded not guilty to the charges presented against them last year.
