The flashiest political party in town, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has asked its members with aspirations for Kenya’s top seat to report for an interview to determine their eligibility as a presidential candidate.
According to the party’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina, the vetting process will involve verification of all the candidates’ documents ahead of their National Delegates Congress (NDC) set for next week.
Among those named in the viral list released on Thursday, 10th March 2022, is Deputy President William Ruto and Jiajiri Sacco Board Chairman Jephnei Nyakwama.
Surprisingly, UDA also invited city socialite Tracy Wanjiru Kingoli who apparently wants to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We are in receipt of your application to be nominated as a presidential candidate through the National Delegates Congress.
Consequently, we invite you for verification of your documents and interview to determine your eligibility as a presidential candidate,” read part of the letter addressed to the candidates.
Wanjiru is required to avail their National Identification Cards, a coloured passport-sized photograph on (soft copy), proof of payment of nomination fees, original copy of the academic certificates and an updated resume.
Who is Tracy Wanjiru?
As things stand, it still remains unclear why the name of this sultry media personality appears on the list of UDA’s presidential candidates.
Although it makes sense that Mr Ruto (just like any other aspiring tyrant) would line up a weak string of opponents ahead of party nominations; and despite his love for cheap publicity, very few people saw this baffling stunt coming.
In fact, the former local entertainment presenter’s name had almost gone into oblivion upon her exit from Nation Media Group’s Teen Republic Show last year.
She had held that position at the station for five years.
When asked where she was headed, the screen siren declined to divulge details at the time.
She only noted that she was “going to be great”.
But even despite that cryptic announcement, Ms Wanjiru has never expressed ambitions of a future in politics.
Even as of the publishing of this post, her social media pages are still mildly active but with no signs of any politicking in action.
No glaring posters or any fancy quotes copied and pasted from the internet: nothing!
Wanjiru has had a long-running career in media and entertainment and was among a team of four that hosted the now-defunct Hits Not Homework show on Capital FM.
Her education background — just like everyone else’s in UDA — is quite shadowy.
Public records show that she attended Loreto Limuru High School before later enrolling to law school at an unnamed institution.
But as per unverified reports, she later dropped out to pursue a career in music.
To the best of our records, Tracy is not officially married.
However, in 2017 she unveiled her Somali boyfriend identified as Michael Kebede.
So how did such an ordinary bimbo end up in the corridors of “Hustler Centre?”
Could this be the latest product of the infamous “Room 350” at the controversial Weston Hotel?
Your guess is as good as mine.
