This week, trouble is brewing down the coast where residents of Taita Taveta county are baying for the blood of one employee in Governor Granton Samboja’s government whom they accuse of looting public coffers dry.
From social media posts seen by our team, Mr Edward Mwakisima is said to be currently constructing an Sh20 million mansion in Maungu area.
The public feels this beats logic because the young man who popularly goes by the name “Mr Mwakimengo” in the streets is said to have only received employment at the Taita Taveta County government in early 2020.
In just a year, and with only a salary of Sh28k per month, the guy rose from just another struggling Kenyan with no past business history to a formidable and affluent tycoon in the region.
According to insiders quoted by a local news source from Taita Taveta, one of the origins of Mwakisama’s ill-gotten wealth is the recently acquired county drilling rig which he reportedly treats as a personal asset.
It is claimed that the M-Pesa till number assigned to the rig reads out his personal name when payments are made.
Relevant authorities like the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission have now been urged to throw a keen eye into underground activities at the Taita Taveta County government and help unearth what could possibly be a major scandal.
