Is seems the government has declared war of online activists. They are now trying so hard to seize the future- A future that is not known. My good friend, whom I work with Abraham Mutai is in police custody.
Mutai was arrested in Mombasa by CID and was flown to Nairobi for further interrogation. He is currently at Muthaiga police station. This is after he revealed many scandals on Twitter and his blog. Up to now, we have not solidly established with expose brought ” Trouble ” to him. Keep in touch and I will update you.
Online activism has now become a crime in this country. Land grabbers, murderers and even rapists are allowed to roam out there when Bloggers are being arrested, cowed, intimidated and locked up incommunicado.
But here’s the guts of it; freedom of speech is a cornerstone of Kenya’s way of life but it is a two way street and no-one should have the right to pick and choose who has the freedom to speak! I treasure that right and, unless others are allowed that same right, then the term “freedom of speech” becomes absurdly meaningless and a contradiction in terms.
You cant arrest Mutai for exposing graft. They should instead go after the corrupt guys . Wew have many scandals in this country that remain unresolved. I dont have time to name them by the way .
This is a wake up call to Kenyan bloggers. Somebody out there is after you, and I mean political bloggers because nobody cares about those who blog about relationships. Mutai is a Kenyan who knew no tribe and stood for accountability. Whistle blowers are now unjustly demonized. The victimization of bloggers must be snuffed. If I am ever prevented from exercising my fundamental freedoms like exposing graft and giving my views , then they’re welcome to shoot me, I will be of no use to anyone.
As we Venture down the rabbit hole, I urge Kenyans to show solidarity with Mutai. We are checking on him at around midday Today. Any willing Kenyan should accompany us
