Hi Nyakundi, kindly highlight this matter and inform the public of what is happening at Strathmore School.
Over the last six years, we have seen Strathmore school deteriorate in administration and management and keep silent.
When the administration under John Muthiora started employing unscrupulous teachers who have turned their classrooms into money-making bureaus hawking tuition at handsome rates that enabled them to buy brand new cars, we said nothing.
When the head of primary section was given to a long overdue retiree teacher that no staff or student has ever liked or respected we said nothing. His backward administration style has led to more indiscipline and hatred for the school.
When our beloved JP Siboe resigned as deputy principal because he could no longer tolerate the funny happenings in the school we kept quiet.
When we learnt that the principal’s office had turned admission time into harvest time for him and his cronies such that there are parents who openly boast of having paid their way into getting admission we said nothing. It is an open secret among the staff that behind the fake holy walk and slow saintly talk, the principal is a well calculated, crafty, dishonest two timing operator who has fattened his bank account since he took over from the very principled Mr. Gortaza.
Even though we know that the old boys are also disgruntled with Muthiora and his PR management style we have said nothing.
But what the administration did this last week in admitting our former Std. 8 students to Form 1 without attaining the required 370 points is unacceptable. In our little Kamkunji meetings that we have had since learning of the shocking admissions we have shared our anger, disappointment, and shock over what Muthiora is shamelessly doing to the school.
How can the so-called academic council admit a boy who got 359 points and leave others who got more than him? Wasn’t it a case of favoritism and tribalism? What was so special about the MP’s son who got 361 points outside the fact that he held the suspension record in that class over the last eight years? Was it money that spoke for him? And what wisdom did the council use in selecting a boy with 366 points and leaving another with 368? As the staff, we are very confused. The selection process does not make sense.
Year in year out, we kept whispering our discontentment with the Muthiora like scared children. We can see that he is slowly but surely destroying our very respected school. Enough is enough. Now we have to talk loudly. We will not allow a few selfish greedy individuals to destroy Strathmore. As the old boys decide how to deal with Muthiora, we expect him to either admit all the former boys who are interested in returning to the school or admit none of the boys who did not get the 370. We want the corruption, tribalism, and favoritism to stop immediately.
And to the current and outgoing Strathmore parents who like us always act scared, wake up. Please know your rights and demand for justice.
