Yesterday, a bodaboda owner rushed a patient to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Eastlands, only to be shot by a policeman at the gate.
The story above of one Mburu goes like this:
Reports indicate the bodaboda rider – Daniel Mburu had rescued a young girl who reportedly was drowning in Korogocho river. After rescuing the girl, Mburu immediately took his motorbike and rushed her to the nearby Mama Lucy facility to save her life.
On arrival at Mama Lucy gate, a scuffle ensued, Mburu forced his entry into the facility to save the child’s life as he saw it an emergency. Luckily enough, he managed to find his way at the Accident and Emergency centre, where he handed over the young girl to the medics. To him, he had saved a life.
When Mburu was coming back from the Emergency centre, he realized his motorcycle was missing. He went and questioned the security guards at the facility who were in the company of two AP officers concerning his motorbike whereabouts.
When he questioned the officers on why they had confiscated his motorcycle, there was an exchange of words that led to a commotion, according to witnesses. During the fracas, the AP officer who was carrying his rifle – an AK 47, shot the young man in the chest.
Murder in Makueni: Execution Mafia style
On July 26th 2009, a white car carrying three men drives into Makindu District Hospital, two men jump out of the car, faces covered with white masks. They entered were on their way to Ward 1, where a patient who had been found half-dead near Tsavo National Park was admitted.
One of the men stood guard at the door of Ward 1 while another walked straight to the patient and stood at his bedside. He asked another patient in a nearby bed to close his eyes; then he aimed a pistol at his target and fired twice, shooting him in the neck and head.
His accomplice, who was keeping watch, whispered to the watchman to keep quiet. After the shooting, the attackers walked away calmly… and the killer still had the pistol in his hand. Once at the hospital parking, the two killers got in their car and drove away.
Another report was not so rosy, it stated that the men who came into the hospital were five, they entered the hospital towards the ward but were stopped by the guard on duty who asked them to get permision to go into the wards from the doctor in charge.
A scuffle is said to have ensued where those near the ward were ordered to lie down as the men made way into the ward and shot the patient dead.
What had happened?
The police immediately stated that the hospital shooting was infighting between rival gangs as four bodies, with deep cut wounds, had been collected from the Tsavo National Park a few days earlier including the patient who was still breathing when the bodies were brought to the Mortuary.
Residents wondered why the police had come to such a conclusion even without investigations. According to the police, the five were believed to have been attacked elsewhere then dumped at Kanga area which lies in Tsavo National Park between Mtito Andei and Voi.
