Twitter is yet to lift the suspension of Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi as parodies using his name gain many followers and interactions.
Twitter suspended the account of Senior Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi after malicious targetted reporting, in a coordinated effort run by local agencies( ScanGroup) and its employees.
The suspension happened the same day Twitter executives landed in Kenya to popularize their advertisement gigs. The Twitter executives met with government officials and attended a Safaricom Blaze event. The blaze event was organized by ScanGroup, the agency whose employees have been lobbying for the suspension of Nyakundi from Twitter.
Many parodies have since been created to mimic Nyakundi’s style of tweeting, some gaining a huge number of followers, in thousands and many Retweets and Interactions, showing that Kenyans depended on Nyakundi’s updates, something Twitter executives in conjunction with digital agencies and government officials decided to black-out.
President Trump, a few days ago, condemned the banning of users because that is like censorship especially on accounts of public interest that are subject to malicious reporting and divided opinion.
Twitter should move with speed and suspend all the accounts impersonating Nyakundi because impersonation is a crime. If they indeed wanted to wipe Nyakundi off the platform, they should do that, very fast.
Twitter could ban the name Nyakundi from their platform if they indeed want to wipe all his digital footprint.
Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has said he will write to Twitter to complain about multiple accounts under his brand name “Cyprian Nyakundi”
