Universal Health Coverage (UHC) medical staff employed in 2020 have come forward to protest what they term as unfair treatment by the government.
The medical staff, who have been working in contract employment for over six years, were recently promised renewed contracts for a further three years by the government.
Despite their tireless efforts to provide essential health services to Kenyans, these dedicated medical professionals are yet to receive any benefits enjoyed by their colleagues in the same environment.
This has caused frustration and disappointment among the UHC medical staff, who feel that they are being denied the recognition and compensation they deserve for their hard work.
The lack of job security and benefits such as health insurance, retirement benefits, and paid leave has been a source of concern for the medical staff.
They are struggling to make ends meet, as they are unable to secure loans or other forms of financial assistance without the guarantee of a stable income.
Furthermore, their work departments are often under-resourced, leading to long hours and high levels of stress.
We call on the government to take all necessary steps to address this issue and provide UHC medical staff with the benefits to which they are rightfully entitled.
This will ensure that they are able to continue their vital work without undue financial strain and that they receive the recognition they deserve for their contributions.
UHC medical staff are an essential part of our healthcare system, and they deserve to be treated with the respect and dignity that their important work demands.
