Members of Parliament were on Thursday, 7 October 2021 treated to free afternoon drama after a heated debate between Garissa Township legislator Aden Duale and Kisumu County Woman Representative Rozaah Buyu quickly escalated to a shouting battle.
This happened during a Parliamentary debate on the state of insecurity in Northern Kenya, when Duale accused Buyu, of interrupting him as he made his contribution.
He then followed it up with a sneaky remark, implying that Madam Buyu does not come from the region and was blindly playing party politics on the issue.
“Those of us who do not come from Northern Kenya, kindly, please don’t play party politics. Don’t shout at me, I am not your boyfriend,” roared Duale.
His remarks briefly halted proceedings in the House as a boiling Rozaah Buyu angrily stood up to respond.
“Madam Speaker is the Honorable Member in order to suggest that I, Rozaah Buyu, want him as a boyfriend,” she asked.
This forced Kibwezi East Member of Parliament, Jessica Mbalu, who was chairing the session on behalf of the speaker, to intervene and ask Duale to apologise for making the remarks.
However, his apology did not go down well with some of the members of the House, who felt it was not genuine.
The speaker had to intervene for the second time for the House to resume its normal business.
