Last night’s tie between Italian giants Juventus and Cagliari was almost brought to a halt after racist chants by a section of the home team aimed at Juventus star Moise Kean refused to die down.
Despite an announcement being made over the stadium speaker, the fans continued to hurl racial slurs at the young Italian international with bottles being thrown into the stadium.
When Moise Kean found the net in the 85th minute, the chants got so bad that Cagliari captain Luka Cepitelli had to intervene; begging the home fans to stop.
Kean celebrated in front of the Cagliari fans, standing in front of them with his arms outstretched, having been insulted by them for most of the match after being booked for simulation in the 20th minute.
“Today I experienced racism during the match, weak people try to intimidate with hate. I am not a hater and can only be sorry for those who set bad examples. Football is a way to spread equality, passion and inspiration and this is what I am here for. Peace,” posted Kean’s teammate Blaise Matuidi after the game.
Kean also posted a message on his Instagram account after the game.
