Former news anchor-turned radio personality Kamene Goro is back amongst the trending topics.
This time around, the Kiss FM Kenya presenter found herself on the wrong side of the ever-watchful online detectives when she admittedly confessed to committing a civil crime by instigating the illegal arrest of one of her fans.
During her morning breakfast show co-hosted alongside celebrated comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, Kamene narrated how she once bribed Kenyan policemen to apprehend and detain an innocent victim under false theft accusations.
She went on to boastfully reveal that after filing the trumped-up charges, the suspect was unlawfully locked up in the cells for a whole month, without ever being charged in court.
“With my fans, Kuna msee mmoja, Alianza umbwakni, By the way nililipa dooh huyu msee alikaa ndani mwezi,” she began, adding, “Alipiga deki police station mwezi, Na asubuhi anaamshwa ‘Wee Mwizi’, Na hauendi kortini,”.
According to Kenyan law, Kamene Goro’s self-confessed crime falls under the category “False Imprisonment”.
The criminal procedure code dictates that false imprisonment is any unlawful confinement.
Thus, where a police officer arrests a person without probable cause or reasonable basis, the officer is said to have committed a false arrest and confinement.
After arrest, the law further prescribes that a suspect must be presented to a court within twenty-four hours after being arrested.
If the 24 hour period expires on a weekend or a holiday, he must be brought to court before the end of the next court day.
