Uhuru Kenyatta’s former political adviser and Cherangany Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Kutuny has threw his weight being the president on the Kimwarer and Arror dam scandal.
Kutuny warned leaders from Rift Valley not to politicise the war on corruption to the point of inciting the public to fight.
Kutuny claimed that those defending the dam scandal might have benefited from the Kshs. 21 billion that is being investigated.
“Na mimi nataka kutangaza hapa kwamba yeyote ambaye anakashifu uchunguzi ambao unaendelea, yeye yuko ndani ya hii sakataa. Hiyo sio siri,” he said.
Deputy President William Ruto has been adversely mentioned in the scandal by other leaders including ODM Leader Raila Odinga.
When the news broke out that Kshs. 21 billion had been lost in the project, DP Ruto immediately downplayed it stating that ‘only Kshs. 7 billion was in question’, terming the report a ‘flat lie’.
This led to a week-long war of words between the DP and Raila Odinga.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji confirmed that indeed Kshs. 21 billion had been lost and called on the police to investigate.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for National Treasury Henry Rotich.
Rotich was intensively grilled for 3 days until he lawyered up.
His lawyer, the former defence attorney for DP Ruto at the ICC Katwa Kigen, said that his client had provided all information.
The Dams scandal threatens to tear the Jubilee Party apart.
Uhuru’s and Ruto’s sides are accusing each other of corruption.
