For the better part of Friday morning, President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the areas of Kayole and Dandora to launch more health and water projects implemented by the Badi-led Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) so as to bring essential services closer to Nairobi residents.
Uhuru officially opened the Soweto Level 2 hospital and Community Water Supply projects just weeks after he presided over the launch of two other medical centres in Kiamaiko and Uthiru.
One of the highlights of his tour was how he freely engaged the youths of the area which just a few years ago was politically hostile to him.
Uhuru even took the chance to praise his political deal with opposition leader Raila Odinga which is famously referred to as the ‘handshake’ and went on to suggest that had it not been for their union, Baba die-hards like Embakassi East lawmaker Babu Owino would be presently stoning him at the scene.
“Babu Owino amekaa hapa, kama sio handshake huyu kijana angekua amenirushia mawe saa hii. Na sasa ndio huyu anatembea na mimi,” he noted.
Just hours after his visit, however, an unseen video from his trip to Eastlands has emerged on social media where the Head of State is seen struggling to control a section of the crowd that was annoyingly intoning over his voice.
“Tulia, Tulia…” the President is heard unsuccessfully urging the group which kept on relentlessly chanting pro-Mike Sonko slogans.
“Yesterday President Uhuru was heckled in Kayole but they decided to hide this clip. Ndio hii tumepata,” wrote Twitter user Stephen Gicheha Chege who shared the clip on social media.
Uhuru’s visit to Kayole came in the same week that Babu Owino trolled Deputy President William Ruto and former governor, Mike Sonko, while celebrating Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was passed on Thursday by the Nairobi County.
Owino said that the county was now free from bondage and dramas witnessed under Sonko’s regime.
The facilities in Kayole are among 24 hospitals being constructed by the team led by Major General Mohammed Badi who was also present.
Others who accompanied the head of state in the event included former Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, Rachel Shebesh, and Majority leader of the Nairobi county assembly Abdi Guyo.
