Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has this noon been freed on a Ksh. 30 million bond, a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh. 15 million.
Chief Magistrate in the Anti-Corruption Court, Douglas Ogoti, released the governor, who was arrested last Friday on suspicion of misappropriating Ksh. 357 million belonging to the taxpayer.
The magistrate ordered that Mike Sonko shouldn’t be allowed to access his office without being accompanied by a law enforcement officer. Consequently, Sonko has been barred from dispensing his gubernatorial duties.
The governor was ordered to surrender his passport to the court, and that he shouldn’t publicly comment on the case.
