Reports have emerged that popular Twitter personality “Frank Obegi” was one of the four men whose mutilated bodies were found in Kijabe Forest this past weekend.
Obegi was recognized within his circles as a dominant social media influencer who successfully worked with various respected Kenyan brands.
Over time, he built a strong reputation for his knowledge and expertise in the field and by 2015; he became one of the most sought-after men in the industry.
However, at the height of the pandemic back in 2020, Obegi quietly disappeared from the Twitter streets, something which many of his followers felt was rather strange.
Ever since then, he kept a rather low profile until Monday afternoon when the news of his untimely death broke out.
What really happened?
Speaking to the media, residents of Lari in Kiambu county said the discovery of the bodies left them in utter shock.
One body was discovered on Saturday and three on Sunday.
They suspect someone had dumped them into the forest from elsewhere.
According to eyewitnesses, they all had deep cuts on the neck and chopped private parts, which points to possible gruesome torture prior to their death.
As to what might have led to Obegi’s murder, a source privy to the matter has strongly implied that the incident could have been an extrajudicial execution.
The party that sought anonymity revealed that the four victims were suspected to have engaged in possibly illegal activities within Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
In a screengrab seen by cnyakundi.com, a source describes one of the group members – a guy named “Eli” – as a “suspected notorious fraudster” whose friends have been mysteriously dying.
It is further understood that Eli was first reported missing on Tuesday, 14 June, alongside his two buddies, “Moses” and Obegi.
The fourth casualty, “Fred” allegedly received a phone call from Eli’s wife who asked him to go and report the matter at Kasarani Police Station.
He never returned home as well.
“They must have done something bad. Eli was a fraudster. All his friends had died mysteriously. Hiyo ilikuwa police job,” the insider asserts in part of the conversation shared below.
On behalf of the blog, this author shares the deepest condolences to the friends and family of the late Frank Obegi, Eli, Moses and Fred.
May they find peace and strength during this difficult moment.
