The government has written off loans of five state institutions totalling over Kshs. 27 billion.
The list of state corporations, government agencies and other organisations whose loans were pardoned by the government include Kenya Airways (Kshs. 24.2 billion), Coffee Board of Kenya (Kshs. 976 million), Pyrethrum Board of Kenya (Kshs. 863 million), Kenya Industrial Estates (Kshs. 758 million), Meru Central Farmers Co-operative Union Ltd (Kshs. 188 million), Sugar Belt Co-operative Union (Kshs. 22 million) and the Associated Sugar Factory Ramisi (Kshs. 15.8 million).
Even as the government wrote off these debts, it is still staring at more defaults totalling to Kshs. 116.8 billion lent to 29 other institutions, mostly the corrupt water boards, which have stopped paying.
HELB Loans
The above written-off loans have brought sharp focus to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) which gives loans to university students at an interest.
Kenyans are wondering why the government can be so insensitive to forget Kenyan youths who are depressed under the yoke of over Kshs. 7 billion loans which continues to accrue interest.
Earlier this year (February 2019), the then education Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed had indicated that government will arrest and imprison HELB loan defaulters.
This drew anger from Kenyans which made the government retract its position.
However, something curious is that before this, the corrupt and inept President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta had signed the Kenya Prisons Enterprise Corporation Order 2018, that, for those who can see through it, essentially made prisons a profit-making enterprise where incarcerated youths mostly males will work in concentration camp-like conditions.
The United States of America (USA) has such a system for African-American males.
African-American males are arrested on flimsy grounds and imprisoned where their labor is exploited for profit by shadowy corporations in a diabolic scheme of white Supremacy.
This scheme is what we can read from Kenyatta’s Prisons Enterprise Corporation Order 2018. Even as our courts and state corporations practice some form of white Supremacy ideologies on Kenyans.
Imagine Kenya Wildlife service compensates white people with more money than Kenyans who have been injured by wild animals.
The courts too, give lenient sentences to White people and long sentences to Kenyans.
You can get the above religion of white supremacy cases by reading media reports.
With the Kenya Prisons Enterprise Corporation Order 2018, Kenyatta said that it would drive the big four agenda.
Now, the big four agenda includes building affordable houses; and this family is actually ahead of the curve with the construction of the Northlands Estate.
Northlands Estate is Kenyatta family’s Kshs 500 billion city, located at Kahawa Sukari area, that is set to replace Nairobi.
Does the Kenyattas want cheap labour for construction of this new city?
Back to the HELB story, Kenyans on social media asked the government to consider writing-off HELB Loans for the millions of jobless, depressed and suffering youths.
Most youths are committing suicide because of the harsh economic times, lack of jobs/opportunities/money and above all, lack of love from their government.
How can a government be so insensitive and myopic?
Below are some of the tweets we sampled. Tell us what you think in the comments section.
Jobless youths are struggling more than KQ.. NO KQ director has committed suicide, our youths are. Write off kSh 7 B HELB loans.

The same government that is after jobless university students. HELB should be a grant, not a loan. https://t.co/CVWAg97jIA

We demand govt write off the sh7B HELB loan too! This is utterly discriminate to write off a sh24B KQ loan (a dying Airways) and not care about the unemployed graduates who cannot access loan facilities because of HELB! We're killing the youth! #TanoTERROR https://t.co/ysY4a2Vm1c
