Just ten days into the new year, misfortune stroke once again on Sunday morning after a bus plunged into the Indian Ocean at the infamous Likoni Crossing Channel in Mombasa.
The tourist bus belonging to Pollman’s Tours and Safaris had two occupants on board; a driver and a conductor, both of whom were rescued and brought to safety by authorities with the help of local good samaritans.
As of the publishing of this post, efforts to retrieve the vehicle were still underway as can be seen in the video below.
This comes just a week after the government officially launched a Ksh 1.7 billion Likoni floating footbridge linking Mombasa Island to the mainland south.
The new bridge, which is expected to operate for five years, was a result of intense consultation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa County leadership as they sought a solution to the congested Likoni ferry channel amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
More updates on this developing story to follow.
