Trouble is brewing within the police service with the Administration Police officers warning they will revenge the Friday killing, and branding of their colleague a robber unless a thorough probe is conducted.
Even as the AP officers demand a prompt probe, a number of questions have been raised on the fatal shooting of AP Constable Daniel Etiang and a taxi driver said to have gone to rob Nigerians residing in Ruaka.
Preliminary analysis of his firearm shows it never fired any round, contradicting earlier police reports there was a fierce shootout.
Constable Etiang, a father of two, was shot on both hands before being shot 12 times and his driver five times.
Investigations are expected to establish where the officer and the taxi driver were going, and whether they were going to collect money from the Nigerians, as alleged. Critical in the investigations is whether the officers were justified in using such force, by firing about 20 times.
“Investigations should also reveal whether there was a fierce shootout as reported, and why the slain officer’s gun was found intact,” said an AP boss.
Constable Etiang (Service No. 236975) is one of the two police officers who have been shot dead and three firearms recovered in two separate incidents in the last 24 hours.
