A former Nakumatt Supermarket Manager, Michael Haenga is dead.
The body of Mr Haenga, who had been an employee of the chain store for over 15 years, was found hanging under a tree inside his own compound on Monday, 9 August 2021 following a quarrel with his wife.
The experienced administrator and his spouse are said to have had marital issues which, according to close family members, began as early as when the supermarket began collapsing.
The nature of the dispute that culminated in him committing suicide was not immediately made clear but he is said to have been struggling with depression.
In recent months, the number of suicide cases has been rapidly on the rise.
It is reported that between March and June this year, at least 483 people committed suicide, with Kiambu topping the list of counties with the highest numbers.
Releasing the report last month, DCI boss George Kinoti noted that most of the cases were attributed to financial constraints, marital conflicts, drug abuse and mental health illnesses.
This is the highest ever record of suicides in independent Kenya.
