A lady was conned Ksh20,000 after being promised a job as a receptionist at a company at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
According to documents and screenshots of chats seen by cnyakundi.com, the conman’s name is Wilson Ochieng Okoth phone number 0702-330-260.
After the lady had shared that she is looking for a job, the man promised that there was an opening for a receptionist at their Phoenix Hotel around JKIA and she should send some documentation and that he will push for it to be considered.
The lady sent her documents to Mr Ochieng as agreed.
Below is her story:
So one day as we are chatting I inform him how I had a busy day. I was processing documents to apply for a job. Then he asks me if am applying for a job at his workplace. He told me he works at JKIA as an IT tech and they have a job opening for receptionist and waiters at his workplace.
So he informs me to try my luck and apply.
I decide why not instead of staying jobless let me apply for it as I wait for the job I studied for to come. So I choose a receptionist job. He offers to fill in the application form for me when he gets to work the next day.
On the next day he gets to work asks for my personal details and fills in the form. He then tells me he has dropped the form at the office. Later on, I receive a call from a landline the man behind the call asks if I applied for a job and I say yes. He asks where other documents are and who referred me to the job. I inform him that Wilson from IT has referred me there. He tells me to tell Wilson to give me a list of what I need to submit.
I manage to do everything am told.
Am called and informed by the man on the landline number 0207842399 that I have got the job and I am to report on Monday. But I need to pay for uniforms and accommodation if I need the servants quarters. He tells me Wilson is my guarantee and he will be responsible for making payments on my behalf.
So I talk to Wilson and I make payments to his MPESA for the things needed. Come Monday I head to town to await the company bus that was to pick up at Kencom. The bus doesn’t arrive.
I enquire and am informed my bus pass and gate pass has been retrieved and that there are some issues at the office they are trying to fix. I idle in town till I get a call from the landline telling me to go home they will fix issues and call me then I can get to work the next day.
The next day comes and goes. No calls from either of the two.
I try calling Wilson but he does not pick my calls. Another day passes still no response. That’s when it hit me that I was probably scammed. This was a big shock. I couldn’t understand how professional these people were and thus wasn’t able to believe they could be scammers.
I didn’t know who to tell or what to do.
