Being a political season and propaganda taking precedence, it is particularly impossible to differentiate the truths from lies. Politicians are hanging in anything to win political scoring. Hot in the topics today is Mumias Sugar following the death of the company’s legal Secretary Ronald Lubya who was brutally murdered at his home and wife gang raped. Initial police investigations out ruled robbery making it a homicide and targeted murder case.
Controversy surrounds the murder as to who exactly was involved in the bloody act which has all indications of a cover-up. Currently, Mumias Sugar is on operation break following huge losses and unsustainability factors. Mumias has been on its death bed and this dates back to when current Nairobi Governor Kidero did a clean sweep on the accounts crippling the normal operations. Despite subsidies from the government, it has never recovered.

On the death of Ronald, Jubilee was caught off guard thanks to their incompetent strategists when NASA ran away with now the dominant narrative that the legal manager was killed because he refused to release part of the Sh1B subsidy from the government to Mumias for Jubilee campaigns. While it is not impossible for any government official to creep in for such scrupulous deal, events surrounding NASA narrative is rather controversial and implicating. Mudavadi is on record saying the manager was killed over his lack of cooperation to release Sh10M to Washiali a jubilee point man in Western for their campaigns.
Westerners are yet to get full answers on the murder of their son Jacob Juma and another strike. In the latest development, there are key questions that we must ask ourselves, has Mudavadi who sensationally said the slain confided to him Jubilee’s plot and danger on his life recorded a statement with the police on this? Mudavadi’s statement would give the investigations clear paths to follow but if all he has done is dias statements then this case is as dead as many others of unresolved murders.
A letter allegedly from Mumias Sugar files dated 13th April 2017 is currently doing rounds affirming the theory that the late refused to cooperate with Jubilee On releasing funds to their campaign kitty. The question is without the authenticity of the letter, why didn’t whoever leaked the letter do it before this killing and had to wait all along until the murder to leak it. I would be damned if I’m wrong but only a fool would want to go on record when cutting such a deal. They’re often done verbally and that’s it.

It is also alleged that the late refused to cooperate with unnamed persons who’re powerful in the sugar cartel to allow in imported sugar from Zambia to be repackaged and sold under Mumias Sugar brand. The sugar is imported cheaply then repackaged as Mumias and sold at an expensive price. Just like the maize cartel, The sugar barons have ensured a shortage of sugar so as to sell at an inflated price.
Kidero is a known and powerful sugar baron, together with his business partner and billionaire Sheikh Khalifa who owns Diamond Wholesalers, biggest sugar distributors, Was the then Mumias Sugar supplier when they ran it down with Kidero. It is now emerging that Joho ( Who has no development record and has earned his name through shouting to Uhuru ) through his clearing companies also working with Kidero and other sugar barons in bringing in the imported sugar before being repackaged as Mumias. Though investigations are yet to establish the truth, we already have persons of interests to question and that includes the State officials who oversee these transactions. The death of Ronald must not be left to go in vain in the name of political scoring.
It is the highest peak of irony when the likes of corrupt and opportunistic politicians as Bonny Khalwale who was bribed millions by Kidero to go silent on his probe over Mumias Sugar collapse. Khalwale strategically initiated a probe of Kidero over Mumias looting baiting him to buy his silence and it worked. They hypocritical senator who operates under ‘Mtetezi wa Wanyonge’ went to Tanzania and got his millions while the farmers in Mumias were left hungry and poor. They then initiated a gag order to give Khalwale a perfect excuse not to speak on the matter. Then the same wanker is blaming some imaginary forces for downing Mumias. What a Genius ! Khalwale lacks the moral authority to talk over Mumias, he can save the crocodile tears as farmers he wants their votes to suffer.

Uhuru needs to review the sugar importation deal he made with Museveni. If we’re going to save local companies then we must support our own. Cut off unnecessary sugar importation and let Mumias mills run. As of Leonard’s death, politics and propaganda will take lead at the expense of truth and the family’s agony. The police must, therefore, shut their ears to political rhetoric and lead us to the murderers.
The Government Must crack down on Sugar Cartels. This is an issue affecting both the opposition and Jubilee supporters because you walk into the supermarket like a Kenyan and buy expensive sugar. How will the Government crack down on Sugar Cartels? First, by making public the Mumias Sugar Forensic audit report and by Opposition leader refusing money from Kidero, who looted Mumias to the ground.
