Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday confirmed that a man personating a cousin to a Cabinet Secretary was on Tuesday arrested.
Reports indicate that the CS linked into the fraud is of Interior Ministry Fred Matiang’i.
According to the DCI, the man identified as Evans Ratemo was using the CS name to con members of public hundreds of thousands.
The man allegedly promised to secure jobs for the victims at the Kenya Prisons Service.
“Mr Evans Koroso Ratemo who has been personating a cousin of a Cabinet Secretary was yesterday arrested 4 defrauding members of the public over Ksh. 600K purporting to employ young men into @PrisonsKe.
He’ll be arraigned today to face charges of obtaining money by false pretences,” tweeted the DCI.
The suspect is a resident of Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi.
The arrest come nearly two months after the recruitment of prison constables came to an end.
The recruitment exercise was held on October 9
Currently, the recruitment of General duty recruits and defence forces constables at Kenya Defence forces is ongoing.
The recruitment began on 27th November and is set to end on December 16.
The recruitment exercise is often marred with corruption allegations.
The Interior Ministry, however, cautioned Kenyans against indulging in corrupt activities.
