China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC) says it has completed work on the Nairobi Expressway.
The Nairobi Expressway is a 27km toll road in Kenya’s capital connecting JKIA through Nairobi’s Westlands area.
My worries are, how will emergency issues be tackled on the CRBC manned Expressway?
The Expressway has no entry point nor exit point for emergency response vehicles.
- Police vehicles
- Ambulance vehicles
- Fire engine
- Towing service

On top of these issues that CRBC has not addressed and KeNHA has not yet issued a communication, Kenyans working on the Nairobi ExpressWay have called out the Chinese contractor.
“Hello Nyakundi,
I have an issue I would like to bring to your attention. So I have a relative who works for express way and the way these Chinese are treating them is very inhumane. They are running the show like we are still slaves and no rest for the kenyan workforce under them,”
According to the insider, racist Chinese at CRBC are using Kenyans as rustic workers.
“The main issue is the Chinese treat Kenyan employees as inferior and with contempt. All the top positions are the Chinese and from what have gathered the only Kenyans at the managerial positions is HR and PR who actually cannot contribute in any decisions making at all.
Guys signed a year one contract but are not entitled to leave days until next year. On top of that, getting sick off is hell and even if you come with a sick sheet that will be unpaid day/days tho I don’t know if that is provided in the contract they signed.
The Chinese carry home a six figure salary regardless of their position while our very own who work for 12 hours get paid peanuts.
Kenyan workers are also not allowed to use their phones in the booths for toll attendants (fair enough) but they have not given provision for cases of emergency. I understand someone was fired for using their phones but he had a sick relative in hospital and some calls just can’t go unanswered.
On that note, there seems to be very many unfair dismissals and also no adherence to the signed contract.
A lady who was a team leader was dismissed because she was asked to deliver news to one of her team members that she had been fired for low sales. She stood her ground and said that was the work of the HR and that’s how she was fired and this was not done professionally but was instead posted on the WhatsApp group at 12am.
They were given branded merchandise (jackets/jumpers) and they made to sign that incase of any loss they will have to pay 10k. Honestly never hard of such nonsense but I stand corrected.
The sexual advances to female Kenyan employees from the Chinese is also on another level.
Women who get pregnant have lower chances of renewing their contracts and they were initially not getting maternity leave.
The order of the day there is abusive language from the Chinese towards our brothers and sisters.
Bottom line is there is a lot of dictatorship and to say the least uko ni ukoloni mambo leo,”
