In September 2019, a local daily reported that detectives from the Anti-Narcotics unit acting on a tip – off had intercepted a Motor Vehicle at the Barclays Center on thika road. The Toyota Allion of registration Number KCB 080M was being driven by Vicky Awiti and his girlfriend, Monica Wanda.
According to the daily paper, Vicky Awiti parked the vehicle, got out of the car and went inside one of the halls. After 15 minutes, he came back with the consignment which he handed over to Wanda who was sitting on the front passenger seat. He then left the car and came back 5 minutes later. It is then that Detectives nabbed them and intercepted the vehicle before detaining them at the JKIA police station.
Inside the vehicle was a consignment in a parcel destined to be delivered to Jared Amollo. The consignment was reportedly found to contain Vaporizer pens permeated with cannabis oil. The consignment was sent to government chemist for further analysis.
Vicky Awiti is the Son of a former Nyali Constituency Member of Parliament and 2017 Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant, Hezron Awiti. Hezron Awiti is reportedly the owner of Habo Group of Companies limited that has already lost two court cases involving summary dismissal and unfair termination of employees employment contracts contrary to section 44 and 45 of the Employment Act respectively.
Monica Wanda, is a trained pilot who was formerly employed with the Kenya Airways company.
According to the Anti Narcotics Unit, Vicky Awiti is on their radar for their past involvement over drug trafficking charges contrary to section 4 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act. How he has managed to beat this charges remains questionable. It is said that he usually point out at other people as the owners of drug consignments in order to divert the attention of anti narcotic detectives.
